GRAFTON Red Cross has come to the aid of the two Clarence Valley families whose homes were destroyed by fire on Thursday, October 18.

Both Cloe Hayward, mother of the Ryan family of Tucabia, and Clair Sullivan received $500 vouchers on Monday thanks to an organisation which is renowned across the globe for helping people in crisis.

The uninsured Hayward/Ryan home was completely destroyed by fire forcing the family of five children and two adults to live in a tiny cabin (pictured).

The Sullivans' South Grafton home was gutted by fire on the same day and though the family was insured, their housing future remains in limbo because any insurance payout will have to be used to pay the mortgage on their Peppermint Pl house.

As Xavier Sullivan has been seeking employment for some time - the prospects of securing a new loan to rebuild the home were slim, he said.

The family, including Xavier, Clair and the couple's four children, are renting a home in Ulmarra until a long term solution can be found.

The Clarence Valley community responded in droves to the plight of both families in the weeks following the two fires although the Sullivans directed most of the goods headed their way to the Hayward/Ryans because of their greater need.

Both women expressed their overwhelming gratitude at the voucher presentation on Monday and Cloe said she was compiling a big list of generous donors to formally thank.

Fundraising efforts, mainly for the Ryan/Hayward family, are continuing with an upcoming trivia night (details below) and talks of a tenpin bowling night.
